East Sikkim Overview
East Sikkim is one of the four administrative districts of Sikkim. This place offers some of the most mesmerizing sceneries and destinations. Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim is the go-to destination for all the tourists, Greenfields, exquisite lakes, several monasteries are some of the most popular things that make East Sikkim a favourite place among the tourists.
Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state. People come here to enjoy the lush green fields, rivers etc. They can avail the ropeway service that runs from Deorali to Tashiling.
Changu Lake has an elevation of about 3753m and is one of the highest lakes in the country. You will find Brahminy Ducks and other rare species in and around the lake. You will notice a Lord Shiva Temple on the shore of Changu Lake.
This place is once was a part of the famous Silk Route. Nathula Pass is one of the highest motorable passes in the world and is situated at a height of about 4310m. This road connects Sikkim with Tibet. Gnathang Monastery and the second highest golf course in the world, Kupup are some famous places to visit.
It is a delightful place for wildlife lovers. The park is situated at about 1780m and it is established to preserve their wildlife by keeping them in their habitat. Himalayan Monal Pheasant, Snow Leopard Cat, Red Panda are some of the rare species found here.
Hanuman Tok is a temple situated at a height of about 7000ft. This place is near Gangtok and will provide you with one of the best locations to spot Mount Kanchenjunga. Photographers will be thrilled to get some mind-blowing pictures of it.
This temple is located at around 13000ft. More than its scenic beauty, this place offers some enthralling stories of Harbhajan Singh, a soldier of the Indian Army who died in 1968. This place will make you observe how this faith can bring people together.
Zuluk is a small town situated at about 10100ft in East Sikkim. Zuluk is a place that offers picturesque views of Mount Kanchenjunga and offers several sightseeing destinations like Thambi View Point, Tukla and its Wildlife where you can find deer, wild dogs, Himalayan Deer etc.
Aritar is a small one in East Sikkim. It is famous for its lush green fields, mountains, and lakes. Parvateshwar Shivalaya Mandir is one of the popular tourist destinations in this region. It is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Apart from it, the visitor can enjoy Lampokhari Lake, which is the only lake in the whole Sikkim that offers boating.
If you are willing to come by air, chopper service is available from Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok. Private taxis are also available at the airport that will take about 4.5 hours to reach East Sikkim.
The nearest major railway station is the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station which is about 135kms away from East Sikkim (Gangtok). You can avail taxi or bus services to reach the destination.
