Places to visit in North Sikkim

Lachung

Lachung is situated at about 8610ft from sea level, and its ethereal beauty makes it one of the renowned snow-destinations. This place is mostly known for its Lachung River and Lachung Gompa. It is close to the Tibetan border.

Lachen

Lachen is situated at a height of about 8500ft and is considered to be one of the picturesque villages in Sikkim. The place is popular for its lakes and monasteries. Gurudongmar Lake which is about 67kms away from Lachen is a must-visit if you are visiting this place.

Yumthang Valley

Yumthang Valley is one of the popular spots in Northern Sikkim for its offering of mesmerizing views of the hilly terrains, rhododendron forests etc. It is around 140kms from Gangtok and the way to Yumthang valley offers some magnetic views of the snowy hilltops and waterfalls.

Chungthang

Chungthang is a small town in North Sikkim and it is one of the military bases of the country due to its close proximity with China. The most popular tourist destination of Chungthang is the holy rock, where Guru Padmasambhava sat.

Mangan

Mangan is situated at about 956m and is one of the smallest towns in North Sikkim. This place is the gateway to Northern Sikkim and is famous for its monasteries and several adventure sports offerings like paragliding. Rock-climbing etc.

Thangu Valley

Gurudongmar Lake

How to Reach North Sikkim

The nearest major railway station is the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station which is about 135kms away from Gangtok. You can avail taxi or bus services to reach Gangtok and from then book a taxi to come to North Sikkim.

If you are coming airways, then either land at Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri or at Pakyong Airport in Sikkim. From there on, book a taxi that will lead you to North Sikkim.
